RPS Presents: “Developing Competency in RTSM"

As clinical trials become increasingly complex and technology-driven, the ability to effectively use Randomization and Trial Supply Management (RTSM) systems—also known as Interactive Response Technology (IRT)—has become a critical competency for clinical research professionals. Yet, despite its central role in ensuring randomization integrity, drug accountability, and patient safety, RTSM remains one of the least understood domains within clinical operations and academic research training.

This presentation will explore the growing importance of RTSM competency across the clinical research ecosystem, from academic investigators and coordinators to sponsors and CROs. It will highlight how RTSM systems enable trial integrity, automate drug supply management, and support adaptive and decentralized trial designs. Emphasis will be placed on the skills gap that exists in academic settings, where RTSM principles are rarely included in clinical research curricula, and on strategies for closing that gap through education, mentorship, and cross-sector collaboration.

The RTSM Professional Society, the world’s first educational non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to advancing the RTSM discipline, will also be introduced. The Society provides a platform for connecting RTSM experts with those new to the field, fostering a global community focused on improving the understanding and utilization of RTSM technology. Through webinars, special interest groups, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, the Society seeks to equip the next generation of clinical trial professionals with the tools and insights needed to design and execute more efficient, compliant, and patient-centered studies.
